Free Firewall for Windows XP
The Free Firewall for Windows XP is a Free Personal Firewall for Windows XP that offers free firewall protection for users of the Microsoft Window XP operating system. Windows Firewall
The Windows Firewall protects the computer and your network by limiting or preventing access to the computer from the Internet. The Windows XP Firewall uses port mapping to determine if inbound connections from the Internet should be allowed into your computer and your private network. The Free Firewall Software for XP also provides stateful packet inspection, monitoring additional aspects of your network traffic and providing enhanced security by keeping track of communications packets over time and providing a deeper inspection of network packets than a Network Address Translation (NAT) firewall.
Free Firewall Protection
To enable the free firewall protection features of the Windows XP Firewall on your computer, from the Windows Start Menu, select Network Connections, and then double-click on the network adapter icon for the Internet connection. Click on the button marked Properties and then choose the Advanced tab from the properties dialog box. In the field labeled Internet Connection Firewall, check the box: Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet.
Firewall Security
A firewall security logging feature is provided with the Free Firewall Software XP. On Windows XP, the control dialog for the firewall logging free firewall protection feature is accessed from the Internet connection properties dialog box by pressing the Settings button from the Advanced tab. The option to log dropped packets will log attempts that have been denied by the free firewall software. The option to log successful connections will turn on logging for successful connections that go thru the free firewall program. The Free Firewall for Windows XP allows the user to choose which requests for communications from the Internet that your computer will respond to. Information sent from your computer can then be acknowledged with a confirmation acknowledgement.
